About the character:
Elim Garak is the only remaining cardassian on Deep Space Nine after
Cardassia has left the space station to Bajor. He has his own clothes
shop, where he also functions as a tailor.
About the actor:
Andrew Robinson is born in the state New York in the city New York
in USA and has studied on the University of New Hampshire and gets
his B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in english from New School for Social
Research in New York City. When he graduates he go to England for
a year to attend the London Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts
on a Fulbright scholarship.
Returned back to the USA Andrew Robinson appeares in varies theatre
productions throughout the 1960s and the 1970s. It is in 1971, that
he gets his big chance as a vicious murderer in the movie "Dirty
Harry", that has Clint Eastwood playing the leading part. Already
the year after he guest appeares in the TV series "Bonanza",
that runs its season 14. From now on his talent is used in many
known TV series for instance "The Streets of San Francisco",
"The A-Team", and "The X-Files". But he has
also appeared in many TV movies and a few movies.
His most known character is as the cardassian Elim Garak in the
TV series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", in which he from
the beginning presents himself as a friend before the chief medical
officer Bashir ("Past
Prologue" (3)). But the truth is that you never really know,
who he takes side with, or what he thinks, where irony and a cunning
attitude lurkes behind his façade.
From the very first he tried the character as Odo, which he was
close getting, but instead it went to Rene
Auberjonois.
The actors daughter, Rachel, has guest appeared "Star Trek:
Deep Space Nine" in the episode "The Visitor" (75),
and was one of the possible choices to the character as Ezri Dax
for season 7 of the TV series. That part went instead to Nicole
de Boer.
