Janice Rand is ensign aboard the USS Enterprise NCC-1701.
About the actor:
Grace Lee Whitney is born in Detroit, Michigan, where also her career
starts as a singer for a local radio station. Her singing career
brings her to where things happens, when new night clubs opens for
the famous singers. Her first movie, "The Texan meets Calamity
Jane", she shoots in 1950 and appeares subsequently in a number
of movies throughout the 1950s and the 1960s. It is also in those
two decades, that she appeares in a number of TV series, for instance
the cult TV series "Batman" with Adam West and Burt Ward.
Her biggest role is though as Janice Rand in the TV series
"Star Trek", but unfortunately she has got into a pill
and alcohol abuse and is therefore fired halfway through season
1. It is not until 1979 with the first Star Trek movie, Star
Trek: The Motion Picture, that she returns to the character.
She also appeares in the third, fourth and the sixth movie.
In 1976 she releases the single "Disco Trekkin'"
and has since released three albums: "USS Enterprise"
(1980), "Light at the End of the Tunnel" (1996), and "Yeoman
Rand Sings" (1999).
