About the character:
During Cardassia's occupation of the planet Bajor, Dukat is the
supreme chief and stationed on the cardassian build space station,
Terok Nor, in a period of 10 years. His rank is gul, and he uses
his authority to the fullest. He is ruthless and uses all his means
to achieve his goals, and there is truly oppression and terror in
his territory.
When Cardassia decides to draw their forces back from the region,
it is against the will of Dukat, who now loses the power, he had
over the harassed bajoran people. The space station is by the Federation
renamed to Deep Space Nine, but in several occasions he tries to
win the space station back. It was a power symbol during the occupation
of Bajor, and he wants everything back as it were.
His obsession of returning finally provides a breeding ground,
when he forms an alliance with the Dominion, as the shape shifters
indomitable army can ensure the glory of Cardassia. At long last
it is succeeded to take the space station ("Call to Arms" (124)),
but Dukat is only a marionette of the Dominion, which he in the
end cannot put up with and is degraded.
Dukat has seven children, but he loses every reputation, when
his wife and children learns, that he has a daughter, Tora Ziyal,
outside his marriage, that on top of that is half bajoran.
About the actor:
Marc Alaimo is born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in USA. It never came
to many feature films, but on the other hand TV movies and a whole
lot of guest appearances in popular TV series like "Kojak", "Hill
Street Blues", and "Knight Rider". But it is as gul Dukat in "Star
Trek: Deep Space Nine", that he has drawned most attention to himself.
Furthermore he has also made guest appearances in "Star Trek: The
Next Generation".
