About the character:
Sarek is a prominent figure on Vulcan and becomes later on the ambassador
of his planet. He has then been married twice with a human, and
with his first wife, Amanda, he gets the son Spock.
Sarek is as all vulcans driven by the order of the logic,
which though in his old days stumbles, vulcans can be several hundred
years old, where thoughts about feelings, which before could be
controlled, now no longer can be kept back from a whole life. When
Sarek dies ("Unification" (107)) he has not reconciled
himself with his son.
About the actor:
It has mainly been on the stage, that Mark Lenard has made his way,
but throughout a lifelong career he has made guest appearances in
a handful of known and popular TV series. His most famous performance
is in that way the character as the father of Spock, Sarek, who
is a vulcan. That he also in Star Trek coherence has played a romulan
commander and klingon captain makes him the only actor ever not
to have played 3 races in Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek universe.
Mark Lenard pass away on the New York University Hospital
in Manhattan on the 22nd of November 1996. He was 72 years old and
is survived by his wife and two daughters, Roberta og Catherine.
