Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Nana Visitor
Nana Tucker
26 July 1957 -
first officer Kira Nerys
[Season 1 - 7]
|
About the character:
Bajorans have their last name in front of their first name, that
is why she is called Kira as last name and Nerys as first name.
Kira Nerys was born and grew up on Bajor, where she most of her
life has fought in the rebel movement towards a free Bajor, which
for several years has been under cardassian occupation.
When Cardassia finally leaves their sector, she do not like Bajor
getting help from the Federation. Now, when they finally are free,
she do not want other foreigners instead. It is her beating heart
for Bajor, who means it, while another part of her sees the Federation
as the stable factor, that keeps Cardassia away from repeating their
occupation of bajoran territory.
Kira Nerys is installed as first officer on the space station
Deep Space Nine, where she is to be the face outwardly. Bajor is
to be reconstructed and the key is co-operation and the will is
presence.
But even though the occupation of Bajor is over, her distrustfully
and fighting spirit is not impaired. She is very patriotic, but
at the same time also morally rational, which she was not, when
she fought the uneven battle against the weapons strong Cardassia.
Kira Nerys gives birth to Keiko
and Miles Edward O'Brien's child,
who she in the episode "Body Parts" (97) had beamed into
her uterus to save the child in a moment, when Keiko's life was
in danger.
About the actor:
Nana Visitor is born and raised in New York in the theatre settings
with a father, that is a choreographer and a mother, who is a ballet
instructor. When she is 7 years old, she studies ballet by her mother,
but at the end of high school it is the acting, she throw herself
into.
It is not until her moving to Los Angeles in 1985, that she starts
creating herself a name, by guest appearing in popular TV series
such as "MacGyver", "Knight Rider", and "Murder,
She Wrote".
Michelle Forbes is supposed
to continue her character as the bajoran Ro Laren from the TV series
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" in the new "Star
Trek: Deep Space Nine", but she is going after a movie career.
For that reason the bajoran Kira Nerys is written into the series
instead and that becomes Nana Visitor's breakthrough. She is married
with her fellow actor in the series, Alexander
Siddig (doctor Julian Bashir).
