About the character:
Odo is security chief on the space station Deep Space Nine, where he is known to protect his private life. But he is also very lonely, because he do not feel himself to be as the others on the space station. He is the only one of his species and do not know his origin, but grew up by a scientist, who has examined him thorougly. When he "grew" up he learned, that people were not interested in him as a person, but because he was different it was fun, if he at parties transformed himself into for instance a chair. That is why he has developed a distrust towards the motives of all and everybody, which is supporting his hatred to the ferengi Quark, who runs the bar "Quarks" on the promenade deck of Deep Space Nine.

Odo is a shapeshifter and can shift into things or make himself to another living being, but every 16th hours he is to rest in a liquid form, which he spend in a bucket in his office. When Odo finds his own people he is also aware, that they are not like him relating to philosophy of life. Odo belongs to the shapeshifter race, that have formed the union Dominion.

About the actor:
Rene Auberjonois is born in the city New York but grew up in the neighbouring area. John Houseman, director and a good friend of the family, introduced the 16 year old Rene Auberjonois in the acting.

The father is a journalist and when he is posted as correspondent in London, the family moves there to. While Rene Auberjonois attend the high school, he continues practice himself in the art of the acting.

He goes back to the USA to study in the Carnegie-Mellon University in Pennsylvanien, where he finish as bachelor in Arts Degree.

Now his career takes off with treading the boards in theatrical plays, first with appearences on the Arena Stage in the city of Washington and later on in a number of theatrical productions in Los Angeles and New York.

In contrast to many of his colleagues in Los Angeles' Hollywood Rene Auberjonois has appeared in som theatrical plays, which has strengthend his talent in many ways. But he has also explored the TV and movie media. For 6 years he appeared in the popular sitcom "Benson", he makes guest appearances in TV series like "Murder, She Wrote" and "L.A. Law", and has also appeared in some movies. Rene Auberjonois' first Star Trek appearance is in the movie "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" uncredited for his character as colonel West.

In the character as the shapeshifter Odo in the TV series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" he is not only making a name for himself as an actor but also shows, that he can master the job as director.
