About the character:
Chakotay, who is of indian descent, is first officer aboard the USS Voyager. After graduation from the Starfleet Academy he rises fast in the ranks. But then he decides to join the organized gang called the Marquis, which inveteraten hates the Federation.

The fate will, that he is aboard the Marquis space ship, which is chased by the Federation space ship USS Voyager the day the accident occures. Both space ships end up 70,000 light years away from known space and only the Voyager remains. The two crews have to learn to co-operate in the process of getting home and Chakotay is because of his past in the Starfleet made the ideal first officer for captain Kathryn Janeway.

About the actor:
Robert Beltran is born and raised in Bakersfield in California, and it is as early in the secondary school, that he decides to become an actor. With the school leaving examination from Fresno State University with a degree in Theater Arts he appeares in a number of theatre productions, such as "Hamlet" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Later on he appeares also in movies and make guest appearances in popular TV series like "Miami Vice" and "Murder, She Wrote". But it is as first officer Chakotay, that Robert Beltran has harvest his biggest fame.
