About the character:
Keiko Ishikawa is from Earth and has in her grown life a great deal
of traditions from her childhood in China. Aboard the USS Enterprise
NCC-1701-D, where she is a botanist, she meets her future husband,
Miles Edward O'Brien. They are introduced
to each other through their mutual friend, Data,
and in 2367 the marriage is a reality. Later she gives birth to
the daughter Molly.
Her husband makes a career move, when he becomes chef engineer
on the cardassian build space station Deep Space Nine, which protects
the planet Bajor. She moves with him, even as she by that becomes
unemployed on a space station, which she not exactly finds a nice
place to live. She lacks substance in her everyday life and finds
out that there is a need for a school. But not all races are of
that opinion. The school has to close down, when the threat from
Cardassia makes it too dangerous to preserve.
Keiko takes a job as botanist on Bajor and takes Molly with her.
After a long period on Bajor, she returns for short while. It is
then she becomes pregnant with their second child, and when she
returns to Bajor, she does not come back with Molly until her job
is finished.
As Keiko is in life threatening danger ("Body Parts"
(97)) it is Julian Bashir's
resourcefulness, that saves her and O'Briens child. He beams the
embryo into the body of Kira Nerys
and it is also her who gives birth to it ("The Begotten"
(110)). Their child is named Kirayoshi.
