About the character:
B'Elanna Torres is half human, half klingon. Her father is a human
and her mother a klingon and they all three live in a Federation
colony on the planet Kessik IV. But the idyll is broken, when the
father leaves the mother and the daughter. When B'Elanna is 5 years
old, they move to the Earth to live, then later on moving to the
klingon homeplanet. Those turbulent times in the life of B'Elanna
results in a not so close relationship with her parents.
Often, she has a conflict with herself being both a human and
a klingon because of the hatred towards the klingon side of her.
Klingons are barbaric and too violent and therefore she distances
herself from their customs.
For a period she studies at the Starfleet Academy but during
that time she takes an interest in the rebel movement the Marquis,
which is sworn enemy of the Federation, and chooses therefore not
to pursuit the career.
The fate will, that she is aboard the Marquis space ship, which
is chased by the Federation space ship USS Voyager, that is pulled
70,000 light years away from known space. Stranded along with the
Federation space ship Voyager. As the Marquis space ship is used
for escaping the being, that took them away from known space, both
crews have to learn to co-operate in spite of political beliefes.
On the Voyager B'Elanna Torres gets the job as chief engineer.
About the actor:
The actor Roxann Dawson lives in Los Angeles with her husband Eric
Dawson, who himself works in the business. She founds her later
career at the University of California by choosing "Theater
Art" as principal subject.
From here on she gets a big part in the stage play "A Chorus
Line" on Broadway in the city New York, but she has alson made
guest appearances in a number of TV series throughout time. Her
character as B'Elanna Torres in the TV series "Star Trek: Voyager"
is though what has made her famous.
