The incredible popular "Star Trek: The Next Generation" stops as planned in 1994 after seven seasons and the successor, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", is launched one and a half years before. It do not reach close to the same hights of popularity in the ratings, however enough for the production to continue. "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" is a much more gloomy series and not family friendly, which can be a part of the explanation. There is also in this series more than ever a connection in the stories, which can stretch itself over several episodes. They try to make the series more exciting by adding a little space ship called USS Defiant NX7-4205 to the space station, but it do not have the big effect. In the pursuit for higher ratings they put in a new trump to the start of the fourth season: The klingon Worf, who was a popular character in "Star Trek: The Next Generation". The ratings go up, but not to the expected.
