Worf must face his failure when his son, Alexander, freely volunteers to duty aboard general Martok's bird of prey. On DS9 there is plotting against the occupation, Zyial, daughter of Dukat, has returned from her stay on Bajor, and Dukat tries to manipulate Kira on a very personal level.

Still with the war raging everyday life is returning to normal at the space station. Worf and Dax carries on their long waited wedding plans, but she soon discovers, that if you are not a klingon, it is difficult to be accepted by them. Worf's friends has it not easy either...

Julian Bashir is offered to work with a group on four, who, as himself, are gene manipulated ("Doctor Bashir, I Presume" (114)). They have all their lives lived in an institution and has difficulty adjusting to everyday life. But when Cardassia's new leader gul Damar notifies they and the Dominion want to talk peace with the Federation, the new acquaintances can do something, that can spare the Federation unnecessary surprises.

From the ferengi leader, Zek, Quark learns, that his mother and the love of Zek ("Ferengi Love Songs" (118)), Ishka, has been taken prisoner by the Dominion and along with his brother Rom, his son Nog, and three other ferengies, he sets out to rescue her. At the abandoned space station Empok Nor ("Empok Nor" (122)) they will exchange a vorta ("Rocks and Shoals" (Part 3) (126)) for the mother, but it does not turn out as planned...

Aboard a space ship on the way to the inquiry of gul Dukat's crimes of war, Sisko talks with the former leader of Cardassia and now prisoner. Gul Dukat, who suffered a nervous breakdown after the death of his daughter ("Sacrifice of Angels" (Part 2) (130)), assures Sisko, that he has recovered from it. Suddenly the space ship is attacked and Sisko wakes up seriously wounded and with gul Dukat as the only one surviving. But is gul Dukat to be trusted?

An enthusiastic Quark inherits from his loyal and very quiet customer Morn, who is reported missing in a ion storm. First there is nothing to inherit, but when that is not the case he gets problems with ex-wife of Morn, two villainous brothers, and a secret agent, who each claims their share of the inheritance.

After a friend's space ship has been destroyed and Sisko considers leaving the Starfleet, he starts to see mirages about his crew, who all are dressed as americans in the 1950's. But before they can discuss a treatment, Sisko finds himself in 1953's New York City as Benny Russell, who writes for a Science Fiction magazine.

When Dax and Worf are send off to meet the double agent, Lasaran, from Cardassia, they receive an encrypted subspace transmission from him about helping him defect to the Federation. In return he will unveil, where The Founders are to be found in the Alpha Quadrant. On DS9 O'Brien persuades Bashir to play tonga against the invincible Quark.

On her dead mothers birthday Kira receives a transmission from gul Dukat telling that her mother, who died when Kira was only three years old, was his girl friend for many years. She left the family to be together with him. But Kira starts to investigate the allegation, so she asks Sisko as the emissary for permission to consult the bajoran time orb.

The officer Sloan from Internal Affairs arrives the space station and explains, that there is a serious security breach. He thinks, that an officer discloses information to the Dominion and instantly puts the officers under house arrest. Soon it is clear that the witch-hunt is aimed towards Bashir!

Bashir shows his new holodeck programme, that takes place in a bar i the 1960's Los Angeles. Kira leaves shortly after the space station to visit her ex-boy friend, who Odo do not like. He is in fact in love with Kira and borrows for that reason the programme from Bashir to learn about romance and women.

Sisko is called to Bajor, when an old slate is found with an inscription referring to the emissary. When he sees the slate he gets a vision from the prophets about an old score to be settled. When as no one knows what that means Sisko takes the slate back to Deep Space Nine to get Dax to study it.

On their way to Ferenginar Jake and Nog are suddenly attacked by a Jem'Hadar vessel, but in the last moment rescued by the Starfleet space ship USS Valiant. Nog recognizes the young crew as Red Squad - an élite squad of Starfleet cadettes - but they have according to Starfleet only the command over a small vessel and not a space ship...

The ferengie leader Zek, and Ishka, Quark and Rom's mother, arrives the space station, where they tell Quark and Rom, that Zek has been deposed as ruler, as he has given women the same privileges as the men: Namely to trade and be dressed clothes. There is three days to win the position back...

Aboard the USS Defiant Sisko and the crew intercept a distress call from captain Lisa Cusak, who tells that her escape pod has landed on a distant planet. Unfortunately the planet has big quantities of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, so she gives herself triox injections to survive. But soon she runs dry and the USS Defiant is several days away. Odo makes big effort to annoy Quark, who again makes Odo concentrate about his love for Kira.

"Tears of the Prophets" (Part 1)

Starfleet have decided to make a counterattack in the war against the Dominion, and Sisko has been chosen to lead an invasion of Cardassia. But Dominion and Cardassia have in secret planted weapons all around in the sector, the Federation wants to take. In addition Sisko gets a vision about not attacking Cardassia.

An possessed Dukat kills Jadzia and then lets out a power sealing the worm hole. Sisko takes a leave of absence indefinitely and travels home to Earth.
