The 23rd century. The Starfleet - a section of the Federation, that
is a unity between the Earth and several other planets with headquarters
on Earth - sends the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, with room for 500
people, out on a five year mission, where captain James Tiberius
Kirk and crew are to explore space for new worlds, new life, and
new civilizations.

The first Star Trek congress is held in 1972 and the interest grows
bigger and bigger for new doings with the USS Enterprise NCC-1701.
Gene Roddenberry makes a deal with an animated cartoon studio, and
it is the actors themselves, who makes the voices to most of the
characters. The only one from the old team, who is not on the soundtrack,
is Walter Koenig, as the budget do not allow his appearance. He
has though written the episode "The Infinite Vulcan" (7)
to the series. All in all there is only produced 22 animated episodes
spread on two seasons of which only 6 episodes is produced to the
2nd season. That the series stops is due to the bad ratings, which
cause probably is to be found by the fact, that the series is airing
early Saturday morning. The series gives Gene Roddenberry a greater
opportunity to make imaginative beings, when the technology of that
time cannot produce believable ones. In a cartoon everything is
possible. Gene Roddenberry and Paramount then discuss to make a
continuation of "Star Trek", a new TV series, which is
given the working title "Star Trek 2". But Leonard Nimoy,
who plays the part as the vulcan Spock, will not appear in another
TV series about Star Trek. But it all is solved by itself, when
movies like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Star
Wars" becomes Science Fiction box-office successes on the big
screen. "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" is the first feature
film released in 1979.
