On the way back to the hunger striked planet, Sherman, with supplies, they meet a klingon war bird, which has the businessman Cyrano Jones as prisoner. Him they get free, but that, he has with him, becomes a problem for the Enterprise...

Near The Neutral Zone, which devide Federation and Romulus, the crew finds the long time missed philanthropist, Carter Winston, aboard a damaged one man vessel. But is it Carter Winston, they have aboard?

On the recently discovered planet, Phylos, an away team beams down to the surface, where Sulu touches a bush, which poison him. In the last moment he is saved by a friendly kind of beings, who lives on the planet.

Speculating the creation of the world the Enterprise is caught inside a kind of tornado and pulled into the centre of the univers. The vital systems fails and the crew begins to loose consciousness. They are then saved by the diabolically creature, Lucien, that shows itself on the bridge.

The Enterprise returns to an amusement planet, the crew once had shore leave on, where things, one imagines, happens ("Shore Leave" (18)). But this time the thoughts is distorted into a scary chaos and Uhura captured.

The Enterprise receives orders on catching Harcourt Fenton Mudd (watch the "Star Trek" episodes "Mudd's Women" (4) and "I, Mudd" (42)), who has sold ineffective love mixtures to some miners. When the Enterprise arrives, Mudd is demonstrating his product on a woman, who Spock subsequent reveals as an illusion and Mudd is saved aboard the Enterprise from a group of angry miners.

An indistinct message is received by the Enterprise under their investigation of the dead super nova, Arachna. Searching the origin of the signal the crew find a crystal like planet with much volcanic activity. A ray of light passes through the space ship and subsequent all organic material shrinks...

Klingon vessels attacks the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 and during the fight the Enterprise and a klingon space ship end up in a space-time warp-velocity, that takes them to a graveyard for space ships in another dimension. Here the crews on both space ships is convicted by the inhabitants for having fired weapons in their world.

The planet Argo, whose earthquakes makes the oceans to swallow up the dry land, is studied by the Enterprise in benefit for similar situations on other planets. Landing on the surface in a custom-made shuttlecraft captain Kirk and Spock is attacked by a sea monster.

In a shuttlecraft Spock, Uhura, and Sulu are on their way to star base 25 with a stasisbox, which is a rare cultural artefact, that can stop time for everything, that is inside it, so it can be forever. The now extinct race of slaves had more of that kind of boxes and the boxes could mutual find each other. The box indicates, that there is another box near by and Spock decides to investigate it further.

The disappearance of a science team alert the Enterprise to the planet Lactra VII, where they find the space ship Ariel abandoned. After having beamed down to the planet they find unusual surroundings and meet the intelligent inhabitant of the planet...
