The feared disease, choriocytosis, hit the Enterprise, but all is cured with the exception of Spock. The disease is only deadly to vulcans, and he can only be saved with strobolin, where the nearest drug is four days away. Spock has only three days more to live in.

The Enterprise has the commander Ari bn Bem from the planet Pandro aboard, as the Federation is eager to open diplomatic relations to the people and its advanced medical knowledge. But soon the commander shows another side of him, as the Enterprise on a planet is getting in contact with the local primitive population.

Three romulan vessels attack the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, when the space ship, according to them, is in romulan space. Captain Kirk let the Enterprise hide in a gasly energy field, but the energy is spreading to the computer aboard and changes its functions.

The Enterprise arrives with medical supplies to Dramia I, where doctor McCoy is arrested for mass murder. On Dramia II he inoculated against saurian virus, but after departure the whole population died. Captain Kirk is worried for his friend, when the population is known to be quick to judge, while McCoy himself consider thoroughly, if he is to blame in the deaths.

A mysterious probe has scanned the territory of the Federation and the Enterprise chases it. At the destination captain Kirk and his crew finds a gigantic alien vessel, surrounded by an energy field. An old earthly legend makes captain Kirk, chief medical officer McCoy, chief engineer Scott, and ensign Wilson to solve a mysterious problem, if not the Enterprise is to be destroyed.

The Enterprise's first captain, now admiral Robert April and his wife, doctor Sarah April, is aboard the Enterprise on their way to his retirement ceremony. On the way an alien space ship pass in high speed locking its tractor beam to the Enterprise with direct course towards a star. Soon, everything is turned upside-down.

Bad ratings makes NBC to end the production. "Star Trek" do not continue until 1979 as a movie:
