Half-way during the season 3 production of "Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine" "Star Trek: Voyager" is launched in 1995.
It is to be the flagship of Paramount's newly launched TV station,
United Paramount Network (UPN), and for one time sake they have
a Star Trek series in their own grasp (it is Paramount, who owns
the rights for Star Trek). The previous series, "Star Trek:
The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine",
have been under syndication, that is airing on different american
TV stations around the USA instead of on one national. The ratings
for "Star Trek: Voyager" are not overwhelming, as they
actually are less good than the ones "Star Trek: Deep Space
Nine" got. Despite catastrophic ratings in season 3, which
seriously makes Paramount to consider stopping the production in
the end of the season, they still let it stay in production its
seven seasons out.
